A Long Collaborative Project

Kbel and I have been working on this project for several months. We came up with the idea back in November. After we moved to my parents’ house, we had to quarantine for 2 weeks. We were very strict so we could keep our family safe, so we stayed in one room as much as possible. We filled our days watching a lot of Taskmaster reruns and patiently awaited the new series 10 episodes. We brainstormed a lot, and when we came up with the cast photos, we knew that was the winner.

I started the process by carefully sketching out my cute designs. I didn’t want to make them chibi, exactly, but I wanted to make them as cute as possible. I did my best to capture their essence, and pay tribute to the cast members’ carefully curated wardrobe choices.

Then Kbel did his magic of making each of the cartoons plumb, square, and level. Where I fell short on capturing certain aspects of face shape or hairstyles, etc., Kbel made alterations. We went back and forth a lot on some designs making sure the outlines looked just right, and then we started coloring.

Coloring is a lot of fun for us, especially with cartoons. There is something interesting about turning someone into a cartoon – you can’t just select someone’s skin color and fill bucket your cartoon with it. Because of highlights, shadows, and contrast, you can’t do this with any colors – even clothing. We had to find a balance between accuracy and things “feeling right.” We always went back to the essence, and our benchmark was whether we thought the cast member would be pleased.

Art is fun.

It is not always an easy thing to collaborate with another artist, especially if you are married. I feel like Kbel and I are really hitting our stride now, and our “professional” relationship is strong. I am very proud of what we have created here, both the products and the collaboration.

I hope you all enjoy! Please support us any way you can. If you find something you would like to purchase, that’s great! But if for any reason you are unable or unwilling to purchase, there are many things you can do to help us
